THE STORY

MISSION & VISION

We exist to HELP  people find  HOPE  in Jesus and a HOME  in his local church.

The Story

Whitewater Crossing Christian Church, with her 100 year storied past, remains historically connected to the Restoration Movement based on Jesus Christ and Word of God. After all these years, our mission remains the same “to help people find hope in Jesus and a home in His local church” and we are sharing that hope in fresh and exciting ways every week.  In 1915, a group of 23 people met to establish a Bible School to be conducted on Sunday afternoons in the Cincinnati area. A year later, the first unit of a framed building was erected on the corner of Glenmore and Meadow avenues in Cincinnati. The people of the church expanded the building in 1921 and by the end of 1922, the church consisted of 230 members under the name Westwood Cheviot Church of Christ. In the late 1990’s, several strong leaders began a process of moving the church toward health. As part of that movement, in 2002, the congregation hired David Vaughan as the new Senior Minister and in 2003, after a long search, the church was led to an available 74-acre piece of land on Route 128 in Whitewater Township. Through two capital campaigns and prudent debt, the church purchased the land and built a 45,000 square foot building for approximately $ 7 million. The name of the church changed to Whitewater Crossing Christian Church, and a Grand Opening of their new building was held on the first Sunday of December, 2007 with over 1,000 people in attendance. Since that time, a phase 2 facility was built at a cost of $13.5 million, more than doubling the square feet of adult ministry and tripling the square feet of children’s ministry.

Beliefs

Find a listing of Whitewaters' core beliefs HERE

Whitewater believes that the key foundational and theological components of an Acts 2--Restoration Movement Church need to be known and supported. Fundamentally, the two nonnegotiables would be that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and Jesus is the only Son of God. Weekly communion and baptism by immersion are a part of this, but there is liberty as to exactly when a person is saved within the process of salvation.

Vision & Values

To produce fully engaged and authentic Biblical communities.

They place highest value on

  • Glorifying God
  • Obeying the Bible
  • Loving People
  • Following Jesus

The Opportunity

Whitewater Crossing Christian Church-- a growing church of nearly 2000 attenders and a $3.3 million annual budget-- is looking for a successor for Senior Minister David Vaughan. The ideal candidate for Senior Associate Pastor will be able to lead with humility, model the church's outward-focused DNA and teach from the Bible with an expository approach that is real, authentic, relational, and conversational. After a season of ministry together, the Senior Associate Pastor will succeed the Senior Minister.

Whitewater

MINISTRY AND CULTURE

Whitewater employs an attractional model that encourages people to ‘invest and invite’ friends to a worship service and then connect them further in discipleship. We believe to our core in a real hell and a real heaven and real people are going there. We align all resources (people and money) to reflect that reality.

Kid's Ministry

Harbortown KIDS is a ministry for infants and kids through fifth grade, that focuses on fostering their faith development at every age. As God’s people, we are passionate about children and we love partnering with parents to influence the spiritual direction of this and future generations.

We lead Harbortown children to develop spiritually using the Harbortown KIDS Compass

Konnecting, Investing & Inviting, Daily Quiet Time and Serving.

Through creative, fun and challenging learning and serving opportunities, we guide and grow children to know God’s love and give parents the tools and encouragement to lead a family of faith.

Student Ministry

Student Union is the place where students can catch their breath. We are intentional at being the place where students can laugh, feel loved and discover that God is for them, “no matter what.” The Student ministry knows that a first time for a student can be awkward. That’s why we strive for “RADICAL HOSPITALITY.” We want every student to feel radically welcomed, radically accepted and radically relaxed. From the time students check in, to the time they leave, we will be intentional at providing the best experience ever. Your students can expect fun, worship, age-relevant Christ-centered teaching, and easy small-group discussion led by dedicated adult leaders. Every student matters and every student belongs at Student Union.

High School and Middle School Union

Sundays, 11:15am

Middle school ministry provides a safe place, with caring leaders who help students through this turbulent phase. Our strategy is to provide an environment that tells all students they belong here and matter to us, but more importantly to God. We do that through planned activities, games, relevant messages, and dedicated small groups with committed leaders who help students sort through their faith questions.

High School students transition to a different room for high school relevant teaching and engagement. They have a time of interactive teaching and a time where they transition into discussion groups. Discussion groups make the crowd smaller, so students can know a few leaders and other students their age. The discussions are fun and easy.

Find Your People: Groups

The Christian life isn’t meant to be lived by yourself. Whitewater has small and medium-sized groups to help people connect to a spiritual community. Approximately 69% of the weekly attendance is regularly involved in small group community.

Find your Fit: Serving

At Whitewater, you can meet people through helping people! Leadership is fully committed to seeing their people grow through serving others. They have built a culture of service, where every member can find their fit in a number of service opportunities.

Help People

Solve 7

Solve 7 is Whitewater’s initiative to put an end to seven of the biggest problems in our community, city and world. Solve 7 is a focused effort for them to be a hub in the community, as well as partner with other organizations to work toward removing barriers in a person’s life so the gospel message can be heard.

Whitewater has identified three areas where Solve 7 needs to be addressed: Our Community, Our City and The Countries.

Locally, we have the Life Center as a hub for combating these issues through ministries and partnerships that have a place on our campus.

We are working with partner organizations, both through financial and volunteer support. Some of these organizations provide one-time opportunities that give members a firsthand experience to show the importance of solving these issues. Some partners need people who are passionate about changing the lives of others and commit to a consistent opportunity. As Solve 7 grows , they will be looking for ambassadors to own consistent opportunities to develop relationships with our partners and the people they serve.

Globally, we will continue to support missionaries who are working to build churches and share Christ by addressing these 7 issues. The church also will be working with partner organizations that provide opportunities for members to travel and see firsthand the severity of these issues and how they can help.

CHALLENGES & OPPORTUNITIES

Opportunities

  1. 1.The chance to come alongside an experienced, godly and successful Senior Pastor, match speeds for a season, and ultimately take the lead in a growing, healthy church as the successor to the Senior Pastor.
  2. 2.Over the last few years attendance has essentially maintained the same level. The new Senior Associate Pastor will help lead a welcoming, warm team of staff and volunteers to make structural, organizational and leadership changes that will enable them to break through current attendance barriers.

Challenges

  1. 1.Assist in implementing a full multisite strategy in the next 18-24 months. Make sure all systems and processes scalable in order to facilitate the new strategy. The church has contracted with a consulting ministry to advise with this initiative.
  2. 2.Increased Guest Follow Up/Assimilation for all services to follow recommendations from recent "secret shopper" surveys and consulting recommendations.

Whitewater Crossing Christian Church is located in the western suburbs of Cincinnati The church facility is located at 5771 SR 128 in Cleves, OH, approximately one mile from I-74, the major highway between Indianapolis and Cincinnati. We are within the Cincinnati Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) of 2.2 million people, which takes in all or part of 15 counties in southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky and eastern Indiana. The area population within five miles of the intersection of the church is approximately 30,000. Within ten miles, the population grows to more than 150,000.

Our growing church is in a quiet, rural “West-Side” setting, nestled along the Great Miami River and surrounded by Whitewater, Miami, Green and Harrison Townships. Although seemingly in the “country” Whitewater Crossing enjoys being part of the Cincinnati MSA, now the largest in Ohio by population. According to the U.S. Census, since 2000, the entire Cincinnati MSA is averaging an annual growth rate of about 9%. The median household income is $76,387 and the median age is 38.

Many of our area residents enjoy living in close proximity to the church because of ease of highway access, quality of our nearby retail and restaurants, and the limited traffic congestion. However, our reach extends well into the surrounding communities thanks to the I-74 corridor which provides 20-minute access to downtown Cincinnati, eastern Indiana and northern Kentucky communities. Also, nearby I-275 provides 15-minute access to I-75 N/S and 20-minute access to I-71 N/S. Travel time to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) is about 20 minutes via I-275.

CVG now boasts over 80 daily flights and is the only airport in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana with non-stop flights to Europe. Southwest Airlines has recently located to CVG with daily passenger flights to several cities, with more expected to be added soon. The airport also is considered one of the fastest growing air cargo hubs in the United States with six carriers, including major DHL and FedEx hubs. Amazon is also investing more than $1.5 billion to build a worldwide air cargo hub at CVG that will employ 2,700 associates. Other nationally renowned companies located here include Proctor & Gamble, The Kroger Company, Macy’s, Fifth-Third Bancorp, AK Steel, and GE Aviation.

Cincinnati has a rich cultural heritage and is a center of activity like few other places in the Midwest. There is always something for every member of the entire family to enjoy thanks to the Major League Baseball Cincinnati Reds (celebrating 150 years), the Bengals of the National Football League, FC Cincinnati of Major League Soccer, a world-class zoo, internationally renowned arts and festivals, the famous Kings Island Amusement Park, a foodie’s paradise at places like the Findley Market, boating on the Ohio River and area lakes, and some of the most incredible parks in the country (the 4,000-acre Miami Whitewater Forest is just two miles away).

Also, there is a vast array of quality public and private school districts, within short drives of our church, many recognized on a national level. Also, the variety of the area housing stock is astounding. From large-lot rural homes to historic and new neighborhoods, to quality multi-family developments, there is a style for every taste.
