OUR STORY

Trinity Covenant Church has deep roots in the city of Manchester, Connecticut having been originally planted in 1892 by Swedish immigrants. It has been a pillar in the community for 130 years. Trinity grew to a vibrant 500 member church in the 1990's to 2000's. It possesses a strong history of missions, music, and a place to find community and spiritual growth through small groups, classes, and programs. Trinity's current facilities were originally built in the 1960's with the office wing built in 1980 and a current worship center in 1999 which can hold 400-450 people. It currently draws people coming from a radius of around 15 miles to the church as well as a strong representation of members who live within walking vicinity to Trinity.

With the arrival of Lead Pastor Peter Kim in 2017, Trinity was seeing consistent numbers of 300-350 on a weekend between two Sunday services. Post-COVID, they are seeing roughly 200 in attendance on Sundays with another 80-100 in unique online views to the livestream.

Trinity Covenant Church is a part of the Evangelical Covenant Church denomination. More information about the ECC can be found at www.covchurch.org

The church is led by the Governance Board, of which the Lead Pastor is a member of and also accountable to. The congregational members weigh in on major decisions when asked by the Governance Board.

VISION

Trinity Covenant Church will be a church for our city that pursues God and His passion for people through a gospel movement starting in Manchester, our communities, and then the world.

MISSION

Pursuing God and His Passion For People

We must pursue new people, new generations, in a new spirit.

Trinity's 10-year plan:

To transition Trinity Covenant Church from a single church location to a multiplying multi-site church planting movement beginning in Manchester and then throughout the Hartford Metro area and beyond.

RELATIONAL COVENANT

LOVE RADICALLY by putting others before ourselves.

LISTEN ACTIVELY by taking the time to understand before being understood.

GROW INTENTIONALLY by building each other up and seeking to find what is best for all.

COMMUNICATE CLEARLY by thinking before we speak and share our thoughts with charity and humility.

STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY by viewing differences, disagreement and evaluation as healthy parts of life, and by creating a safe place where people can be nurtured and grow.

LEADERSHIP

Peter Kim is the Lead Pastor of Trinity Covenant Church, having accepted the call in December, 2017. He is a Korean-American pastor born in Brooklyn, raised in Chicago, and now living in Glastonbury, CT with his wife Kathy and their three children: Ella, Jonathan and James. He was called to ministry early during his college years at the University of Illinois and went directly to seminary. This year is his 27th year in full-time pastoral ministry.

After being a church planter for fourteen years over two church plants, he sensed a desire to be in a more stable and rooted ministry context. This led him, Kathy and their children to prayerfully move across the country to New England and put down roots in beloved, Trinity Covenant. He was sought after as an outsider with a fresh perspective using his multi-cultural church planting background to help lead the church to a renewal and stronger missional focus for the greater community of Manchester and beyond. He has helped launch a new vision to help guide the church and is hoping to build a new team of pastoral leaders to help turn the church around from the challenges of Covid, to grow the church younger, more diverse, and see healthy growth. His vision to see a multi-site church planting movement launched out of Trinity into the greater metro area to reach new people with the gospel.

Peter is a highly relational and collaborative leader. He leads through empowering others in their gifts as he casts the big picture vision of where the church needs to go. Participatory partnership and freedom for staff to lead is an important element to Peter's leadership style. However, this pairs with the expectation that Trinity staff goes above and beyond in all that they do as together the team strives for excellence and moving the mission forward.

WORSHIP + MINISTRY CULTURE

This is an exciting time to partner with Trinity Covenant Church! Post-COVID, Trinity is seeing both old and new faces walk through their doors every Sunday. After the retirement of their former Worship Director, Steve Nielsen, the worship team has been led in the interim by worship team member, Jaime Markham, who has done an incredible job keeping forward momentum as we prayerfully seek God's next right Worship Arts Director.

True to this region of the country that is steeped in tradition, the worship style of Trinity Covenant is a meaningful blend of contemporary worship and hymns. The next Worship Arts Director will have a respect and appreciation for both styles, and will be able to infuse a mostly modern worship set with spirit songs and hymns. The worship culture of Trinity is used to a modern worship band and dynamic worship leadership.

The next Worship Arts Director will have an incredible opportunity to bring their leadership and know-how to a church that craves their expertise. The band mostly runs in-ear monitors with a few floor wedges if/as needed. Trinity has minimal experience with using click track and has not yet delved into the world of tracks. The Worship Arts Director will be able to influence the trajectory of this use of technology.

Trinity Covenant offers one Sunday morning service with a midweek band rehearsal. One Sunday a month is called "Family Sunday" where families are encouraged to come in and sit together. The service content is catered to serve these intergenerational gatherings. Worship songs typically done in services are taught ahead of time in the kid classrooms in preparation for these Family Sundays. Tables are brought in and set up in the back of the room for this special monthly gathering.

The Worship Arts Director will inherit a committed team of great musicians and technical volunteers. There are currently 9 volunteers who rotate and serve in the technical booth. There are currently around 3 keys players, 2 guitarists, 2 bassists, 2 drummers and 9 vocalists who rotate throughout the month. Recruiting, growing and developing these teams will be an essential part of the role.

The Worship Arts Director will oversee and give guidance to all things that occur in the Sunday service, from stage design to service order to guiding the technical team as able. They will work in partnership with Peter Kim, and be the one leading and guiding what happens in the room on Sundays.
