HISTORY & CURRENT

Flatirons Community Church began in 1983. It is the 14th largest church in America and is the largest church in Colorado.

After meeting in various locations for many years, they remodeled a huge retail space, transforming it into an amazing ministry facility. Over the past four years, Flatirons has launched four additional campuses throughout the Denver area.

They have weathered several storms over the past few years through COVID and recession. As they surface from these, in-person attendance rapidly returns at all campuses, and online viewership remains strong. They continue to take lessons learned from a hard season and create ways to provide their communities hope and walk alongside them as they all navigate a "new" normal.

Flatirons is real, raw, and bold. They aim to be a place where people can bring their unchurched or anti-churched friends without needing to explain or provide caveats with an invite. They seek creativity and relevance to do this while keeping theology and belief in the power of Jesus at the forefront.

They target " real, down-to-earth" people with families in the 25 to 55 age range. Most importantly, they target the lost people of the greater community, regardless of demographic, with biblical truth and the reality of God's grace.

The church community is predominately middle-income and Caucasian. They pursue continued growth in diversity and demographic reach. They have five physical church locations, one church campus within the walls of a state correctional facility, and an online campus (those who've never been in a physical campus but call Flatirons their church home).

The Denver Campus was the third campus of Flatirons Church, launching in 2015 near downtown Denver. Flatirons Denver sees around 400 in weekly attendance, nearly 75 of those attending kids' ministry programs each weekend.

MISSION of FLATIRONS

"To bring the awesome life of Christ to a lost and broken world. .”

We will apply the Bible through everything we do so that people who feel disappointed with how they’ve been living are equipped with a mission, tools, and community to live out God’s purpose for their life.

VALUES of FLATIRONS

BIBLICAL AUTHORITY – “A BETTER WAY TO DO LIFE”.

The Bible is God’s Word and it is our authority for life. If we will adjust our lives (submit) to it, we will find a better way to live.

RELATIONAL INTIMACY – “GRACE AND TRUTH”.

No matter what you have done wrong, we believe that by grace through faith in Jesus alone, it is still possible to be reconnected back into an intimate relationship with God.

SPIRITUAL FORMATION – “ME TOO”.

We believe that living life and linking arms in a safe “me too” group is the best environment to train to know who Jesus really is so that He is formed in us.

EXCELLENT ENVIRONMENTS – “BUMP INTO JESUS”.

Using our spiritual gifts, talents, abilities, resources, passions and creativity, we believe that it is our role and responsibility to create excellent environments and eliminate any and all obstacles so that people have the best opportunity to encounter (bump into) Jesus so that He can do what only He can do.

RELATIONAL EVANGELISM – “COME AND SEE”.

Because of what Jesus has done for us we believe the most loving thing we can do for others is to go to them and invite them to come and see who Jesus is and what He has done for them.

LEADERSHIP

Flatirons Church is staff-led and elder protected. The Executive Team sets the tone for church operations, staff, and ministry engagement. Trust in leadership has been earned and proven. Honest accountability is a defining reality for all staff.

Lead Pastor, Jim Burgen

Jim Burgen is the real deal and brings a visionary, creative, "out of the box" style to Flatirons. He is a leader who loves to resource, develop and stretch a talented and growing team. He exemplifies the truth of God to the staff and church family in a real and raw way. His vulnerability with which he leads his life has set the tone for Flatirons staff to do the same and impacts how they engage with those who enter the doors.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY APPROACH

Flatirons Kids (Denver Campus) is the exciting and vibrant Children's Ministry of Flatirons Church and serves nearly 100 kids (babies through 5th grade) through two identical Sunday morning services. Flatirons Church is invested in the next generation and prioritizes opportunities for kids to come to know Jesus and to grow in a life-long relationship with him.

Flatirons utilizes Orange Curriculum, customized and prepared by the central kids' ministry team and implemented at each campus. General ministry strategy and resources are provided centrally so that Kids Ministry Directors can prioritize building healthy volunteer teams and providing exceptional care to the kids and families who attend each weekend.

Dynamic Large Group Experiences

The Bible is an exciting, action-packed message of hope and salvation written for believers of all ages. Teaching the truth of God's word should never be boring. Flatiron Kids creates fun, engaging, and age-appropriate large group environments where kids experience the teaching of scripture in meaningful ways.

Meaningful Small Group Communities

Life change happens best in the context of community. Every kid needs a place to belong and to be known by adults and teenagers who show up consistently. Flatirons work to create environments where ongoing relationships are a foundational weekly experience.

Highly Invested Teams

Flatiron Kids is powered by amazing volunteers who are committed to the work of reaching and leading the next generation. Highly engaged adults and teenagers create meaningful experiences every week. Flatirons set a high bar of ownership and engagement for volunteer teams.

Life-Changing Events

Catalytic events often help kids take the next step in their relationship with Jesus. Sometimes special events make great invites for friends and family in the community. Flatiron leverages strategically placed events to promote connection and growth for kids and families.

CHALLENGE & OPPORTUNITY

Flatirons Kids Ministry aims to share the awesome love of Jesus with every kid who walks through the doors. This team believes that good news can radically change a kid's life. Flatirons Kids teaches that all are loved and forgiven and can live a "Kingdom" life with Jesus.

This ministry works hard to remove any obstacles for parents to bump into Jesus. Parents are the primary agents of their child's faith journey. The goal is to create a fun, safe, and awesome environment that kids love and parents trust - so God can do the work that only He can do.

Volunteers are vital to the success of any ministry. Intentional steps are currently being taken to improve the volunteer recruiting, training, and retaining systems at Flatirons. The NextGen team at Flatirons is reshaping the volunteer experience coming out of COVID, building regularly serving volunteer teams, recruiting highly-invested ministry leaders, and improving safety procedures for every area of NextGen.

Denver Campus

The Kids Ministry at the Denver Campus is a fantastic growth opportunity. Rebuilding from the pandemic was not easy, and Flatirons Denver is looking for an energized leader ready to take the ministry to the next level. After a recent transition in leadership, the Kids Ministry at Denver is led by an interim leader from the central kids' team.

For a mid-sized location, the Denver Campus has an amazing facility. The church building is a BEAUTIFUL 70-year-old Methodist Church, bringing traditional and modern aesthetics. Flatirons Kids is located in the basement and is in the early stages of a remodeling project to maximize space and create beautiful environments for kids.

The next Kids Ministry Director will join a healthy staff team and inherit excellent resources to build a next-level kids ministry. Immediate attention to casting a compelling vision and recruiting dedicated volunteers will set the next person up for long-term success. Going after the low-hanging fruit in the first six months will build momentum for future growth and success.

The Denver Campus values the ongoing development of relationships with kids, families, leaders, and staff. They have a strong community where relationships are thriving, and many opportunities exist to develop new relationships as they do ministry.

LOCATION & DEMOGRAPHICS

Denver is the capital of Colorado and boasts a population of over 700,000 people within the city and over 3 million in the metro area. Colorado has consistently been one of the fastest growing states, with the nation's second-most highly educated state and #2 for an active lifestyle. With all it's appeal, Denver has attracted the majority of people who have moved into the state.

In addition to all that Denver offers, there are many more options within driving distance. Some of the greatest ski towns in the nation (Breckenridge, Beaver Creek and more) are within a 2 hour range. Whitewater rafting, skiing, dogsledding, snowmobiling, jet skiing and much more can all be found within a short drive, making this a great place to raise a family, maintain a physical lifestyle and explore the creation of God.

In addition to all the great things Denver has to offer and attract people, it is one of the leading unreached cities in America. Labeled as one of the most "churchless" cities in America, Denver provides pastors and ministry leaders great opportunities to reach and disciple people who are far from Jesus. This makes Denver a great place to live personally and to minister for the Kingdom.
