FLATIRONS MISSION STATEMENT

"To bring the awesome life of Christ to a lost and broken world. .”

We will apply the Bible through everything we do so that people who feel disappointed with how they’ve been living are equipped with a mission, tools, and community to live out God’s purpose for their life.

FLATIRONS CORE VALUES

BIBLICAL AUTHORITY – “A BETTER WAY TO DO LIFE”

The Bible is God’s Word and it is our authority for life. If we will adjust our lives (submit) to it, we will find a better way to live.

RELATIONAL INTIMACY – “GRACE AND TRUTH”

No matter what you have done wrong, we believe that by grace through faith in Jesus alone, it is still possible to be reconnected back into an intimate relationship with God.

SPIRITUAL FORMATION – “ME TOO”

We believe that living life and linking arms in a safe “me too” group is the best environment to train to know who Jesus really is so that He is formed in us.

EXCELLENT ENVIRONMENTS – “BUMP INTO JESUS”

Using our spiritual gifts, talents, abilities, resources, passions and creativity, we believe that it is our role and responsibility to create excellent environments and eliminate any and all obstacles so that people have the best opportunity to encounter (bump into) Jesus so that He can do what only He can do.

RELATIONAL EVANGELISM – “COME AND SEE”

Because of what Jesus has done for us we believe the most loving thing we can do for others is to go to them and invite them to come and see who Jesus is and what He has done for them.

HISTORY & CURRENT STATUS

Flatirons Community Church began in 1983. It is the 14th largest church in America and is the largest church in Colorado.

After meeting in various locations for many years, they remodeled a huge retail space, transforming it into an amazing ministry facility. Over the past ten years, Flatirons has launched four additional campuses throughout the Denver area.

This church is real, raw, and bold. It aims to be a place where people can bring their unchurched or anti-churched friends without needing to explain or provide caveats with an invite. It seeks creativity and relevance to do this while keeping theology and belief in the power of Jesus at the forefront.

They target "real, down-to-earth" people in the 25- to 55-year-old age range with families. Most importantly, they target the lost people of the greater community, regardless of demographic, with biblical truth and the reality of God's grace.

The church community is predominately middle-income and Caucasian. They pursue continued growth in diversity and demographic reach. They have five physical church locations, one church campus within the walls of a state correctional facility, and an online campus (those who've never been in a physical campus but call Flatirons their church home).

LEADERSHIP

Flatirons Church is staff-led and elder protected. The Executive Team sets the tone for the operations of the church, staff, and ministry engagement. Trust in leadership has been earned and proven. Honest accountability is a defining reality for all on staff.

Lead Pastor, Jim Burgen

Jim Burgen is the real deal and brings a visionary, creative, "out of the box" style to Flatirons. He is a leader who loves to resource, develop and stretch a talented and growing team. He exemplifies the truth of God to the staff and church family in a real and raw way. The vulnerability with which he leads his life has set the tone for Flatirons staff to do the same and impacts the way they engage with those who enter the doors.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY APPROACH

Flatirons Kids is the exciting and vibrant Children's Ministry of Flatirons Church. Flatirons Church is invested in the next generation and prioritizes opportunities for kids to come to know Jesus and to grow in a life-long relationship with him.

Flatirons utilizes the Orange Curriculum, which is customized and prepared by the central kids ministry team and implemented at each individual campus. General ministry strategy and resources are provided centrally so that Kids Ministry Directors can prioritize building healthy volunteer teams and providing exceptional care to the kids and families who attend each weekend.

Dynamic Large Group Experiences

The Bible is an exciting, action-packed message of hope and salvation written for believers of all ages. Teaching the truth of God's word should never be boring. Flatirons Kids creates fun, engaging, and age-appropriate large group environments where kids experience the teaching of scripture in meaningful ways.

Meaningful Small Group Communities

Life change happens best in the context of community. Every kid needs a place to belong and to be known by adults and teenagers who show up consistently. Flatirons works to create environments where ongoing relationships are a foundational weekly experience.

Highly Invested Teams

Flatirons Kids is powered by amazing volunteers who are committed to reaching and leading the next generation. Highly engaged adults and teenagers create meaningful experiences every week. Flatirons sets a high bar of ownership and engagement for volunteer teams.

Life-Changing Events

Catalytic events often help kids take the next step in their relationship with Jesus. Sometimes, special events make great invites for friends and family in the community. Flatirons leverages strategically placed events to promote connection and growth for kids and families.

SUMMER CAMP 2024

CHALLENGE & OPPORTUNITY

Flatirons Kids Ministry aims to share the awesome love of Jesus with every kid who walks through the doors. This team believes that good news can radically change a kid's life. Flatirons Kids teaches that all are loved, forgiven, and can live a "Kingdom" kind of life with Jesus.

This ministry works hard to remove any and all obstacles for parents to bump into Jesus. Parents are the primary agents of their child's faith journey. The goal is to create a fun, safe, and awesome environment that kids love and parents trust - so God can do the work that only He can do.

Volunteers are key to the success of any ministry. That is especially true at Flatirons. Intentional work has been done to improve volunteer recruiting, training, and retention across all of NextGen. Investing in regularly serving volunteer teams (consistent small groups), highly invested ministry leaders, and improved safety procedures are key priorities for Flatirons Kids.

Flatirons Kids Campuses

Kids' Ministry at one of Flatirons' campuses is an amazing growth opportunity. Significant effort has been made to develop Flatirons Kids into a healthy and collaborative ministry. There is strong alignment across campuses and healthy systems and strategies have been implemented to ensure continued growth.

For mid-sized ministry locations, the campuses have excellent facilities for kids. There are ample age-specific room locations, ministry theming that fits with the Flatirons' look and feel, and amazing volunteer rooms to train and care for weekly volunteers.

The next Kids' Ministry Director to join this team will inherit amazing resources to build a next-level kids' ministry. For the past several years, Flatirons Kids has experienced healthy development and growth at every campus.

LOCATION & DEMOGRAPHICS

Denver, the Mile-High City, was born from a gold rush in the late 19th century. A small strike in the nearby mountains drew prospectors, and Denver quickly became a bustling supply center. Its strategic location at the foot of the Rockies and along the Platte River made it a natural hub for transportation and commerce. Though no longer a mining town, Denver retains its historic charm and has evolved into a vibrant metropolis. It offers residents and visitors a wealth of cultural, recreational, and culinary experiences, all within the backdrop of the majestic Rocky Mountains. Come live, work, and play with us in our modern city with an old-west flair.
