we believe in making outrageous investments in the Next Generation

HISTORY & CURRENT

Bay Hope Church was founded in 1987 in the Tampa Bay Area at Claywell Elementary in Lutz, FL. It was originally called Van Dyke United Methodist Church. The church grew quickly and bought a plot of land to build a multipurpose building for worship and programming in 1993. Pastor Matthew Hartsfield arrived soon after the new facility opened and Bay Hope has grown exponentially in attendance and impact in his 28 years. The staff has expanded from a group of 5 to over 100 full and part-time staff across 4 campuses, as well as a phenomenal At Risk Kids Ministry and a nationally acclaimed Day School for preschoolers.

In 2011, Bay Hope expanded their reach through an online campus.  In 2018, BH launched their first multisite location when they acquired and renovated a church in a nearby community.  And in 2019, they jumped at the opportunity to open a satellite campus located on the University of South Florida in Tampa. The Harbor @ USF is a ministry designed for 18-26 year olds.

Bay Hope is poised for significant growth and impact in their predominantly unchurched community. The potential is endless as young families continue to move into the surrounding area. Prior to Covid, over 3,000 people were attending their weekend services and they are beginning to feel the momentum rebuild as families are re-engaging and a growing number of first time guests attend each week.

From the moment you pull into the parking lot there is an authentic “You Belong Here” welcoming vibe that is indescribable. It feels like home! They are a welcoming, but not affirming church; loving ALL people with extravagant grace while holding fast to a biblical worldview. Worship is dynamic, the production elements are excellent and innovative and the preaching is passionate, relevant and hope-filled making the church proud and excited to invite their friends.

The leadership culture at Bay Hope is healthy with a strong emphasis on soul care and personal development. This past year, they have incorporated John Mark Comer's, Practicing The Way , spiritual formation resources into their discipleship pathway.

Lead Pastor, Matthew Hartsfield, wholeheartedly believes that the Director of Kids Ministry is the most important position they will hire at Bay Hope Church. They are looking for a leader of leaders; someone who is passionate about building teams, developing leaders and empowering families to own their walk with Christ. They have a talented Kids staff that is willing to change, learn and grow and they are beyond excited for a new leader who will bring experience, fresh vision and renewed excitement to Kids Ministry.

WELCOME TO BAY HOPE CHURCH

MISSION

Our mission is to connect people to a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ.

DARING FAITH

We are innovative risk-takers, praying and acting boldly, expecting God to create supernatural breakthroughs.

FEARLESS SERVICE

We are action-oriented servants, pushing through all obstacles to astonish people with the love of Jesus.

EXTRAVAGANT GENEROSITY

We are adventurous givers, bravely sharing our resources to punch holes in the darkness with the light of Jesus.

PASSIONATE EXCELLENCE

Passionate Excellence: We relentlessly give our very best to honor God and inspire people.

UNSHAKEABLE FOCUS ON THE FUTURE

We make outrageous investments in the next generation, raising spiritually heroic children and youth.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

ABOUT GOD

God is the creator and ruler of the universe. There is one God, eternally existing in three co-equal persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

ABOUT HUMANITY

Humans are created in the spiritual image of God, to be like God in character. We are created to be in relationship with God, but we are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God, called sin. This attitude separates humans from the relationship with God that we were intended to enjoy.

ABOUT SALVATION THROUGH JESUS CHRIST

The only way to restore our relationship with God is by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ, the second person of the Trinity, lived a sinless life on earth and voluntarily paid for our sin by dying on the cross to take our punishment. He rose from the dead and will return to earth to rule forever. We will exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally united with God by personally choosing to trust in the free gift of God's grace offered through Jesus Christ. God's saving grace — not our human effort — is the way to a Christ-filled eternity.

ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE CHURCH

The Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, draws sinners to Christ and equips and gifts believers for personal growth and service in the Church and in the world. The Church is the community of believers who have made Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior. Through fellowship with the Holy Spirit, the Church's role is to bring people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and serve the needs of a hurting world under the Spirit's leadership and power.

THE BIBLE

The Bible is God's eternal Word to humanity. It was written by human authors under the supernatural inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth and the sole basis of our beliefs.  It is the authoritative rule and guide for our lives forever.

LEADERSHIP

Bay Hope Church is a staff-led, lay-governed, United Methodist church, with a system of accountability for Senior Leadership through the district of the United Methodist Church. The Executive Leadership is blessed with a healthy team, with Pastor Matthew at the helm—casting the vision and direction of the church.

The leadership is future-focussed and permission-giving. They strongly believe in and are committed to the development of staff leadership. They work hard to create an environment of trust and encouragement because they believe that this nurtures the most creative and innovative culture where staff thrive and innovate better ways to connect people to a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Bay Hope Kids Director oversees ministry to children from 6 weeks - 5th grade. They give direct oversight to the Core Team at the Lakeshore Campus and have a dotted line to the Westchase Kids Coordinator.

He is a visionary leader who has the rare ability to lead with his head and his heart. He is a tremendous communicator who is the same on and off the platform. He values excellence in all things and places a high value on staff health and development; he is always encouraging staff to grow in their leadership and calling.

CHALLENGE & OPPORTUNITY

TEAM BUILDER

As Bay Hope continues to rebuild and grow, it is imperative that the new Director of Kids designs a ministry structure that is scalable to grow with the church. The Children's Ministry is staff-run and is maxed in its capacity to grow without the implementation of a new volunteer leadership structure. Currently there is not a middle level volunteer leadership structure empowered to lead teams of people. Many volunteer roles are being filled by staff members. Therefore, the new Director of Kids Ministry will need to create a system of development that equips and releases volunteers into leadership. This will allow greater impact of the care and development of volunteers as leaders and create a system that is both scalable and sustainable. Bay Hope Kids is fully staffed which may be part of the volunteer ; from the outside, it may appear that volunteers are not needed because there are so many staff members filling volunteer roles. In addition, it's possible that staff may be concerned that if they recruit and delegate to volunteers, their job may become obsolete.

DEVELOPER

With multiple direct reports and the need for a large team of volunteers, it is vital that the Director of Kids Ministry be a highly relational developer leader who invests in the ministry leadership to help them reach their greatest potential. They have a talented Kids staff that is willing to change, learn and grow. The leader in this role must have the ability to develop a team approach to ministry and create an atmosphere of challenge and support for Bay Hope Kids staff. They need someone who is always searching for the next and best ways to empower parents, staff and volunteers to engage in a Christ-centered family life. Spiritual health, self-awareness, and maturity are must-haves for this new leader.

DESIRE FOR LEADERSHIP

Bay Hope Kids is in need of a strong and relational visionary leader that has the ability to innovate and develop systems and best practices for a growing church. They are in need of someone with a fail forward mentality who is not afraid to try new initiatives for both in-person and digital engagement. The new Director of Kids Ministry will need to effectively cast vision to garner the trust and support of volunteers, parents and the congregation. The staff, parents and volunteers within the Children’s Ministry are looking for leadership and direction. They are ready to fully embrace a new leader with a compelling vision.
