Pastor Joel Guinen - Student Ministries Pastor
The new Associate Student Ministries Pastor will report directly to Joel Guinen (The Student Ministries Pastor). Pastor Joel has served in student ministry for 18 years and has currently been serving at Cornerstone Ministries for over 7 years. Pastor Joel loves to work collaboratively with his team. While Pastor Joel is very driven in his approach to impacting students' lives, he is still highly relational and tries to connect well with every student, parent, and leader. Pastor Joel is not a micro-manager by any stretch of the imagination, rather, he loves to see his team members operating in their sweet spots and often divides up the team's tasks by skillsets and passions.
Every team member is highly valued and given lots of input into the direction and day-to-day work of the ministry. The student ministries team loves to work hard, and have a lot of fun together as they do. Pastor Joel and the student ministry team have created a high-paced environment that accomplishes a lot of great ministry while striving to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
In addition to working with the staff of the student ministry, you will also get to work with a large volunteer team that is fully bought into the vision and mission of the ministry. Every single week the student ministry has around 75 volunteers, who love serving together and having a great time as they invest into students’ lives.

Cornerstone has been blessed with an incredible Student Ministry Building known as The Warehouse. The Warehouse is a 24,000 sq. ft. building devoted to helping our church reach and disciple 6th-12th grade students. The Warehouse has its own sanctuary called Stage 127, a full-size gym, a lobby with a video game wall, ping pong, pool tables, air hockey, a climbing tread-wall, and a café that serves up the best milkshakes in town.
Our student weekend services include a time of worship with our very own Warehouse Worship Collective worship team, a practical & biblical message, and small groups by grade and gender with one or two adult small group leaders. Currently, we average 200+ students for our weekend services.

Beyond our student’s weekend services, we offer many other amazing programs and activities for students.
Throughout the school year, we have what we call Wednesdays @ The Warehouse, which is a high-energy gathering for our students. Students love our mid-week service, which is designed with a completely different feel from our weekend services. With lots of activity and ways to connect with friends, our Wednesdays at The Warehouse serve as the perfect event for our students to invite their friends, help them connect with others, and hear a short, but powerful message. With around 180 students on Wednesdays, The Warehouse is certainly the place for students in the community to be on a Wednesday Night.
In addition to our weekly services, our camps are a huge driver for growth in our Student Ministry. With 285 students at our most recent Summer Camp, and 245 already registered for our upcoming Winter Retreat, we put a lot of stock on these massive discipling weeks of our year. As we really dig into some powerful teaching, and deep discussions through our small groups, and yet also offer massive discounts to students bringing first-time friends, we truly seek to go both deep and wide at these events. With 59 baptisms at this past summer’s camp, including some brand-new Jesus followers, we strive to help every student find their next step in their walk with Christ and surround them with a great community with which to walk their Christian journey. To see a highlight video from our Summer Camp and Winter Retreat, go to Vertical Camp (our week-long summer camp), and Winter Weekend Retreat.
Another great driver of the discipleship of students has been our High School & Middle School Mission Trips. This next summer, our Middle School Mission Team will be serving one of the most impoverished communities in our country, in southern Kentucky, while also taking a special detour on the way home, to visit the Ark Encounter Museum. Meanwhile, our High School Mission Team will be serving in the Dominican Republic, where they will be focusing all their efforts on doing daily ministry throughout the city, followed by a Community Carnival on the final workday, in an effort to maximize their communication of the Gospel, as they try to reach the lost and help new believers get plugged into the local church. To see some highlight videos from our Mission Trips, go to: Missions Trips

Beyond all of these great services and events, we also maintain a very active calendar of events to help students connect with Christ, and one another, while also providing some great opportunities for students to invite their friends and plug them into biblical community. To see a sample calendar, go to our Ministry Calendar Here.

CHALLENGE & OPPORTUNITY
Foresight and Systems
Small groups, camps, and service structures are all mapped out and planned in advance. The ideal candidate will love systems, structures, planning, and a good spreadsheet. With a history of organizing their own camps, missions, and events, this team is organized and operates like a well-oiled machine. Parents and leaders know the annual youth ministry schedule up to 12 months in advance. Part of their rhythm includes consistent review and debriefing, allowing them to continuously improve and make their events better.

Copilot
Pastor Joel and the team are truly collaborative and foster a family atmosphere in everything they do. This team needs someone who knows how to be a great copilot—no lone rangers here. The mentality is "we do this together," and caring for families, leaders, and the work of the ministry is shared and assigned based more on relationships and skills than on titles. The ideal candidate will be “all in,” viewing this as a whole-family ministry. The student ministry team often brings their families to events and even stays after services to play together in “The Warehouse.”
High Leadership Capacity
The volunteer leadership for the student ministry is made up of high-capacity leaders who are fully invested. This team is committed to their small groups, involvement in events, and running sub-ministry teams. The new leader will need to be skilled in empowering, encouraging, and mobilizing volunteers. They should be passionate about students, leaders, and partnering with parents.
Secession
After 25+ very successful years of ministry, Cornerstone will be transitioning their Lead Pastor. This succession has been well planned and executed with the support of a consulting firm. The team is highly optimistic about this transition and excited for the new growth and kingdom impact that the new Lead Pastor will bring.
Opportunities, Not Obstacles
The student ministry team are masters at turning obstacles into opportunities. They did not slow down or give up during COVID; instead, they pivoted and found ways to continue organizing mission trips, camps, and other events. They have consistently faced space issues as the group outgrows camps and event venues, finding ways to provide alternative options. This new leader must be a creative problem solver with a can-do, make-it-happen mentality, even if that means joining a traveling trampoline performance team (ask P. Joel). This role may involve late nights and long weekends preparing for camps.
